Learn how to dutch braid as a beginner

There are 2 ways you can add hair to this braid and in this video, I’m showing you the first way. This is the way of adding hair to the braid I always do and this is what works best for me. But everyone is different, and if you find this way hard, then give the other way of adding hair to the braid! (Video linked below on the second way)

If you have really healthy hair and you find the hair slipping out of your fingers, which makes it quite hard to braid. Then try out a hair powder, that is going to give the hair grip and texture. Then it will be way easier to braid your own hair!

The hair powder I use myself, will be linked below and its great!

Dutch braid step by step guide

In this video, I’m talking you through how to do a dutch braid as a complete beginner. I show you hand placement and explain every single step from start to finish!

Time requirement: 10-15 minutes

Skill level: Medium

Step by step guide on how to dutch braid

  1. Take a small section of hair on the top of the head and split it into 3 equal sections
  2. Then cross the right strand under and into the middle (For hand placement, please watch the video)
  3. Then bring the left strand under and into the middle
  4. – Now the dutch braid is started off so now we are going to add hair to the braid
  5. Again cross the right strand under and into the middle
  6. Now take a new section of hair on the right side and add it to the middle strand (the strand from step 5)
  7. Then take the left strand and cross it under and into the middle
  8. Again grab a new section of hair on the left side and add it to the middle strand (the strand from step 7)
  9. Repeat steps 5-8 until you there is no more hair you can add to the hair
  10. When there is no more hair you can add it into the braid, then braid the rest of the hair like a 3 strand braid
  11. When you get to the end of the hair then put all 3 strands together to 1 and then tie the hair off with an elastic!
